The Dune of Pilat

A short cycle ride from Arcachon Bay, and opposite the point of Cap Ferret, is a sand giant: the ‘Dune of Pilat’. Some 104 metres tall, it is the highest sand formation in Europe.

The ascent – made easier with the steps – is well worth the effort for the unobstructed panoramic view it offers.  On one side, the ocean and the entry to the Bay stretch out before you; and on the other side, the Landes forest… and on a clear day, you can even see as far as the distant Pyrenees.
