Capbreton

The city of 100 captains

voilier

A lively, family-friendly seaside resort, Capbreton, near Hossegor, was once known as "the city of 100 captains." Maritime activity has always been very important and has allowed Capbreton to develop over the years.

The town of Capbreton is located at the intersection of two stages of the Vélodyssée, between the stage from Léon to Capbreton and the stage from Capbreton to Bayonne.

As the only fishing port in the Landes region, take advantage of your visit to Capbreton to discover its fish market. Authorized to sell their catch without going through the auction, fishermen showcase their fresh fish daily on the market stalls as soon as they return from the sea (open daily from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. depending on the catch).

The Gouf of Capbreton is a hidden treasure! Passing unnoticed at a glance, it requires a closer look. Indeed, this canyon is one of the deepest in the world: 3,000 meters deep! This submarine trench, resulting from an exceptional geological phenomenon, is a natural refuge in the open sea and teems with diverse animal species.

Take the path along the coast to reach the Capbreton Pier. This wooden jetty, built under Napoleon III to protect the harbor entrance, is now the symbol of the town. Many photographers have made this monument a local star.
